The cup upset

December 15th, 2011

There is nothing greater in football than the thrill of the cup. Whether it is the Asian Cup, the Eurpoean Cup, the World Cup or the Carling Cup, it simply provides a buzz like no other. The excitement of having the chance to play against one of the great teams when you are a much smaller one and become victorious is the best feeling ever. This week it was seen again with the likes of Crystal Palace knocking out Manchester United.

It is always great for a smaller club to get the chance to go to the world famous Old Trafford ground to face the most popular club in the world Manchester United. They are followed by people of all nations, and they even have their own fan club in India with several thousand members. This is why it is such a big thing for a smaller club to take them on in a one off match and come out on top.

It is likely that the game is being viewed by people all over the world. This is no big deal for the Man U players who get this everytime they play. However when lesser teams get the chance to do this, for some it becomes the biggest game of their careers. That is why it means so much to them, and makes the game worth more than any other.

The chance to showcase your skills in front of a worldwide auduence does not come about that often, and when it does and you manage to overturn the odds and become victorious, there is no better feeling. Crystal Palace managed to turn over the giant club and record a special victory, and it was watched by millions, instead of the 17 thousand that usually attend their games. It truely is a magnificent specticle of sport. I was there to watch the game, and not even receiving road traffic accident compensation would have stopped me from getting there.
