Rio Ferdinand May Be Out For The rest of season with calf injury

March 18th, 2011

On March 17 2011 Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, revealed that defender Rio Ferdinand is likely to be out for the rest of the season due to a calf injury. Now Rio is no stranger to serious injuries as just last season he had to miss out on a great number of games which culminated in him not taking part in the World Cup in South Africa.

Sir Alex also revealed that the defender has not trained for a number of weeks prior to this announcement. The injury has continued to rule the defender out of returning as captain of the club and of England.

Wow what a bummer, its like not having heating oil during a winter storm. As if the club didn’t have enough problems already in defence with John O’Shea, Rafael, and Vidic out with injuries. So I guess that Sir Alex will be playing Wes Brown either at right back or centre back, and Chris Smalling hopefully will continue playing at a high level.

Right now there are a couple of other players that are questionable for the near future. Anderson, who Sir Alex says is quite near to returning to the first team. Fletcher is still feeling the effects of a virus. Hargreaves and Park are in training now and could be coming off the bench for the next match. Michael Owen, fortunately, is now fit and ready to go.

No doubt Sir Alex is praying to have himself a strong squad as soon as possible especially when they play the next round of the European competition. We feel your pain Sir Alex.
